Work Programme 2022 of the EU Commission

  • Interact
On 19 October 2021, the EU Commission published its work programme entitled Making Europe stronger together. The programme is published every twelve months. It is the fourth work plan under President Ursula von der Leyen. With the programme, the Commission provides a timetable for its projects for 2022. Accordingly, those initiatives that were planned until the end of 2021 at the time of publication but have since been postponed to 2022 are not included. These include the proposal of the EU Supply Chain Act or the Data Act. The EU Commission continues to focus its policy on climate change, digital transformation and the associated social challenges. With the large number of initiatives already presented and measures that have yet to be announced, it is important that the legislative processes lead to coherent and reliable framework conditions for the economy. In addition, care must be taken to ensure that EU policy creates the conditions with which companies can successfully master the transformation processes. The sole formulation of goals is too short-sighted. Only a competitive and innovative industry can generate the necessary investments and make the necessary contribution to successful transformations. With the evaluation of the Work Programme 2022, we give an overview of the extent to which the goals and plans of the EU Commission do justice to the economic situation and thus to the people of Europe, where these projects go in the wrong direction and which topics are not sufficiently taken into account.
